  • It is common to feel worried or unsure about what to expect from therapy. It is important to recognize that the therapeutic experience can vary for each individual. Generally, therapy provides a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. You can expect to work collaboratively with a trained therapist who will help you gain insight into your challenges, develop coping strategies, and set and work towards goals to improve your mental health and overall well-being. Therapy may involve discussing past experiences, exploring patterns of thinking and behavior, learning new skills, and processing emotions. Overall, therapy is a journey of self-discovery and growth, tailored to meet your unique needs and goals.

  • Choosing the best therapist for yourself is a very important step in beginning your therapeutic journey. The therapist-client relationship is one of the most important factors in creating a supportive space where you can reach your therapeutic goals. Each of our clinicians have a preferred approach to providing therapy as well as different areas of expertise. Please visit and review our therapists profiles on the Team page to find the one that best fits your needs at this time.

Regardless of the the therapist you choose, at Transcending Counseling we strive to provide all of our clients a safe and supportive environment that promotes healing.

  • During the first therapy session, the therapist aims to create a safe and comfortable environment for the client. The therapist typically starts by explaining the therapy process and ensuring that the client understands the importance of confidentiality.

The therapist may ask the client about their reasons for seeking therapy, their goals, and any relevant personal history. This helps the therapist gain a better understanding of the client's concerns and how they can best offer support.

The client can also expect to discuss logistics such as scheduling, fees, and cancellation policies during the first session. Additionally, the therapist may provide information about their therapeutic approach and what the client can expect in future sessions.

Overall, the first therapy session is focused on building rapport, establishing goals, and creating a foundation for a productive therapeutic relationship. Clients are encouraged to ask questions, express any concerns, and actively participate in the therapy process from the beginning.

  • The frequency of sessions and their durations are determined based on your unique needs and progress during therapy. Typically, clients meet with their therapist once a week for 50-minute sessions. However, your therapist may recommend a different schedule depending on your individual circumstances and treatment goals. Feel free to discuss your preferences and availability with your therapist to establish a suitable meeting frequency and appointment length that best supports your therapeutic journey.
